Where Do 2 1/2 Year Olds Come Up With This?

More pics to post this weekend, but in the meantime, a few more Ethanisms.

--On the way to daycare this morning, Ethan told me "Mommy, we need to get my roller skates." When I asked him where they were, he said that "Captain Hook has them!" By the way, Ethan does not have roller skates and I doubt he even knows what they are!

--Last night, Ryan and Ethan were at home just the two of them while I was teaching, and apparently Ethan was giving Ryan quite a hard time. Ethan is going through a stage where he asks for something 20 times in a row with the hopes that he will exhaust you into giving it to him. When Ryan finally said his 20th "NO" to Ethan, Ethan's response was "you are gonna make Mommy sad." Apparently Mommy gets sad when Daddy tells Ethan no:-)

--Ethan's new response to us telling him no is "you don't tell me no." When I asked Ryan where he learned this, he pointed out that is what we tell him constantly!

Our "Mini-Vacation" in Chicago

I had a seminar in Chicago on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week and Ethan and Ryan went with me. We left on Sunday to visit our friends Megan and Joe and their new little girl Eloise.

Ethan and Eloise

The Daddy's and their Babies....Aren't they all adorable?!

Monday we went to Shed Aquarium....Ethan loved every minute of it, but especially loved the smaller fish (small in comparison to the sharks and whales).

Ethan and Daddy in the Hotel Pool....Mommy was not eager to get into a bathing suit at 7 months pregnant:-) Ryan and Ethan had lots of Father/Son time Tuesday and Wednesday while I was at my seminar. Tuesday they went to Lego Land (for 5 hours!) and Wednesday they swam in the pool, ate Chicago hot dogs and went to a children's museum.

Ethan watching Finding Nemo....I think he loved it even more than before now that he has been to the aquarium!

More Ethanisms

I do have photographs to post, just having computer issues at home so I haven't been able to post them. So in the meantime, I will give you more of my favorite sayings from our favorite little man!

* Ryan and I "discussing" where to go eat for dinner and what direction to go...Ethan in the backseat: "Mommy, be nice to Daddy." This was after spending a day with just Daddy at Legoland. My how quickly the tide can turn!!

* Ethan's new favorite saying is "No Way!" Sometimes he adds a "Hosea" to the end...and then it is often followed by "Yes Way!"

* "Oh My Goodness!"

* Ethan is now singing his ABC's from start to finish, and his other favorite songs that he randomnly sings to himself include Twinkle Twinkle, The Farmer in the Dell, Old McDonald, and most recently, The Babies on the Bus (that one took us a while to figure out what he was singing:-)

* Ethan requests the prayer at dinner time, I think mainly because he likes being able to say "Amen....now time to eat!"

* Saturday morning I saw Ethan sitting up in bed so I went his room and crawled in bed with him. Well, he was having none of that because as he quickly told me, it was "time to get up!" Then he proceeded to say "Mommy get out of my bed." When I didn't get out right away, he quickly said "One, Two, Three..." I made sure to get out on Three since that is the trick I use to get him moving!

* Ethan during Church yesterday morning held out his hand and repeated "Body of Christ, Body of Christ, Body of Christ" followed by a pretend gulp and a "Mmmm". Just when you think they aren't paying attention!

* Everytime Ethan leaves the room, he is sure to say "Be right back Guys, OKAY?"

Santa Claus and Other "Ethanisms"

Because this Blog is my "diary" of Ethan's life I decided now that he is talking like crazy and has developed a personality with a life of its own I am going to start using this blog to memorialize the funny (and interesting) things he says and does.

So, the teachers at daycare asked Ethan what his little brother's name was going to be....his response...."Santa Claus!" Not sure what to think of that seeing as how Ethan is afraid of Santa Claus and wants nothing to do with him!

Ethan is still learning the differences between "me" and "you"...for instance when he wants picked up he says "Mommy...I want to hold you." And a few weeks ago I was sitting on the couch and he came in and grabbed my arm and said "Mommy get off my butt!"

His FAVORITE things to say these days are "Mommy (or Daddy) come here" and "I fine." When you ask him if he is hungry, has to potty, wants to take a nap, etc. his response is always the same...."I fine." And sometimes, to really get the point across, he will say "I fine, OKAY?!" And his constant response to the question "did you go poo?", regardless of whether he did or not, is "no poo poo, I fine." Why we keep asking him I will never know!

This one came from Ryan...."No Daddy, That's Mommy's" (to everything that Ryan touches...last night at dinner he told Ryan that the fork Ryan was eating with was Mommy's)

Every night before bed we say the prayer "Now I Lay Me" and Ethan is getting to the point where he can say it along with us...of course the only words you can make out are the first and last of each sentence...but at the end we say "God Bless...Mommy, Daddy, Harley, Cooper, Mimi, Papa, Nana, Papa Cour, Lexi, Darrin, Parker, Uncle Scott, Aunt Erin, Mommy's Baby (as I rub my tummy) and Ethan's Baby (as he rubs his tummy). He gets very upset if I say "Mommy's Baby" without making mention of his! We also catch him at random times throughout the day saying "God Bless..." and going through the list....sometimes he throws in Mickey and Donald Duck:-) Also, in an attempt to keep us in the room he will often times request "more prayers" or "prayers again". Ryan catches on quicker than me, I will say them three times before I figure out what he is doing! He also will say "mommy, lay down" and point to the pillow where he wants me to lay my head. Then, when I lay my head down, he will give me his blanky saying "here you go Mommy" (which if you know Ethan, you know is his absolute favorite thing in the world), cover me up with it and pat my back (at daycare they pat the kids on the back to get them to go to sleep). Last night he even tried to give me his binky!

The first thing Ethan says in the morning...."I want cereal, bar and juice" and "I want Mickey Mouse." His absolute favorite thing to eat right now is Nutrigrain Bars...he ate 3 the other morning before daycare! The morning ritual is normally getting Ethan dressed and letting him watch one episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while he eats his cereal, nutrigrain bar and drinks his juice. Of course if he had a bad day at daycare the day before he doesn't get to watch Mickey.

Something that Ethan and Ryan do together that absolutely cracks Ethan up is chase each other around the house....Ryan will hide in the closet, or behind a door, and then when Ethan gets close jump out and scare him....Ethan laughs so hard sometimes he can't catch his breath...Ethan's favorite place to hide is in the pantry with the doors shut...sometimes while he is in there he will rearrange the spices for me:-)

Ethan has been counting to 10 now for a couple of months, though he likes to start with 4 and then go back to 1 later. He also knows the colors red, blue, green, and orange...and calls purple "grape."
